Sami sets off in her big boots and red hat determined to find a dragon as rain clouds gather. She searches the garden shed, peers under the porch, and even climbs a tall tree, meeting friendly cats and a bossy goose along her way. When she reaches the top of a muddy green hill, she rests by a bright puddle and spots a tiny dragon blinking golden eyes. Instead of capturing it, she smiles and lets the little dragon slip beneath the water, cherishing the magical moment. Back home she tells her mother about her small but marvelous discovery and drifts off to sleep dreaming of tomorrow’s adventures.

On a sunny Saturday, Sami had an idea! She wanted to find a dragon. She put on her big boots. She put on her red hat, which always meant it was adventure time. She packed a bag with a sandwich and a flashlight. "I will find a dragon today!" Sami told her cat excitedly. The grey cat blinked green eyes, mildly interested. First things first. Sami looked in the garden shed. It was dark inside. She saw a watering can. She saw three flower pots. She saw a tiny spider. "Hello," Sami said to the spider. But there was no dragon here. Next, Sami looked under the porch. She got down on her tummy. She turned on her flashlight. Two yellow eyes looked back. Sami felt her heart beat fast. Was it a dragon? No. It was a tabby cat. "You are not a dragon," said Sami. "I know," said the cat with her tail. Then, Sami walked to the big tree. Next, Sami climbed up the branches. She climbed high enough to see her street. She saw her mother in the yard. She saw the bakery. She saw a big green hill. But no dragon! A white cloud sat on top of the hill. A dragon could live right there! Sami climbed down from the tree and walked past the bakery. The baker gave her a bread roll. She walked past a very bossy goose. The white goose honked loudly. Sami kept walking to the big hill. The hill was very tall. She walked to the very top of the hill. Sami stopped and sat by a round puddle. It was very bright. She ate her sandwich. She looked at the water. She waited for a long time. Then, Sami saw a tiny shape. It was swimming in the water. It was green and bright. It looked at her. It had small wings. It was a tiny dragon! Sami did not say anything. She did not grab her box. She just smiled a big smile. The little dragon went under the water. It moved its long tail. Then, it was gone. Sami walked all the way home. Her boots made a squish sound. "Where did you go?" her mother asked. "To find a dragon," said Sami. "And did you?" Sami thought about the puddle. "Yes, but it was very small and busy." Her mother smiled. That night, Sami went to bed. She was very happy. She put her red hat by her pillow. She would need it for tomorrow.
