At recess Leo loves to run and play kickball in his blue shirt and white shoes. One day he spots a new boy sitting alone by the fence and decides to pause his game and say hello. Although Leo feels shy he offers the red ball and invites the new boy to join his team. The new boy’s face lights up with a bright smile as they run to the field side by side. Leo has on his blue shirt. He wears his navy shorts. It is time for recess! Leo runs in his white shoes. He loves to play kickball. Kick the ball! Run fast! Recess is loud and fun. Leo is very happy today. Wait. What does Leo see? There is a new boy. The boy has curly blonde hair. He wears a bright red shirt. The boy sits by the fence. He sits all by himself. He is not playing kickball. The new boy looks sad. Leo stops his fast running. He holds the red rubber ball. His friends call to him. Should Leo go back to them? No. Leo looks at the boy. The boy needs a friend. Leo walks to the fence. The boy looks at his shoes. His shoes are white, like Leo's. Leo feels a little shy. It is hard to say hello. But Leo takes a deep breath. He holds the ball out. He smiles with his round brown eyes. Leo looks at the new boy. He asks a kind question. "Hey, do you want to be on my team?" The new boy looks up. His green eyes look bright. His face lights up. He gives a huge smile! He jumps right up. They run to the field. They run side by side. They play the game together. Leo feels very warm inside. Being kind is not hard. It is not a big thing. You just share your ball. You just make a friend.
